AnaEE ~ Infrastructure for Analysis and Experimentation on Ecosystems

A distributed network of experimental platforms to forecast the impacts of climate and land-use changes on ecosystems.

Infrastructure for Analysis and Experimentation on Ecosystems

obj 5183

AnaEE is a research infrastructure for experimental manipulations of managed and unmanaged terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. It supports scientists in their analysis, assessment and forecasting of the impact of climate and other global changes on the services that ecosystems provide to society.

It is based on distributed (existing and new) advanced experimental platforms of four types:

  • In situ/in natura platforms
  • In vitro platforms (such as ecotrons)
  • Analytical platforms
  • Modelling platforms

The coordination and integration of these national platforms is managed through supra-national centres which ensure international access, improved measurements and data harmonization, technology development, links between data and models, open access to raw data and syntheses. They also allow researchers to network and provide an interface with key stakeholders.

In the context of biodiversity research, AnaEE is offering experimental platforms that can be used, among other themes, to relate variation of biodiversity variables to variation of ecosystem processes (e.g. chemical cycles, GHG, temperature,...) or to management practices (e.g. in the field, in forests,...) and environmental changes in general.

Type: distributed infrastructure

StatusESFRI project; applying for an ERIC Landmark (for 2021).

Creation date: 2018-2019

Access & costs: Access conditions are currently in the hands of the national platforms which will then contribute to AnaEE when it will be operational. AnaEE will implement infrastructure access rules, that will be based on open access principles. The access and use of the infrastructure(s) will be associated with costs. In addition, the accessed platform has to be mentioned at least in the acknowledgement section of all publications using data from or obtained on the platforms; platform staff that were involved are to be co-authors; the data have to become public after a period of one year after data collection.
