We are seeking an early career scientist for a 6 month contract to assist with the implementation of the EU FP7 project: "Developing a Knowledge Network for EUropean expertise on biodiversity and ecosystem services – KNEU"
The Belgian Biodiversity Platform is presently seeking to hire an early career scientist to assist in the implementation of the EU FP7 “Developing a Knowledge Network for EUropean expertise on biodiversity and ecosystem services – KNEU (http://www.biodiversityknowledge.eu) . The KNEU project is aiming to develop a prototype Network of Knowledge on Biodiversity in Europe. The Belgian Biodiversity Platform/ Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences is in charge of the overview of the expertise/ knowledge holders in Europe. The person hired for this position will be in charge of mapping the knowledge landscape, primarily for biodiversity conservation (and potentially other biodiversity-related topics) in Belgium. (S)he will specifically:
· Identify and contact relevant experts and stakeholders in all Belgian regions;
· Carry out interviews following a method called “Netmapping”
· Transcribe and analyse the results of these interviews to map knowledge flow on conservation in Belgium.
· Assist with the organisation of a conference on Conservation Research in Belgium
she/he will work under the supervision of the Belgian Biodiversity Platform’s KNEU project manager. She/he will attend training sessions on the Netmapping method in Germany and work closely with the German KNEU partner.
We seek a colleague with the following profile and qualifications:
· Having excellent networking and communication skills is absolutely required; an excellent knowledge of English, French and Dutch is mandatory.
· Being enthusiastic and having an outstanding ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural professional environment are required;
· Hold a university degree (MSc) in social or natural sciences related to environmental issues. Having some experience in science communication and/or with interview based methodologies is an asset. Some experience of biodiversity related topics (e.g. conservation, ecosystem services) is welcome.
The position is a short-term contractual position of 6 months (starting October 1st 2012) based at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels.
We offer a salary and conditions according to the conditions applicable at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences for a contractual agent of class SW1 of the scientific career.
