IUCN in Belgium

 

 

Environmental policy, including biodiversity policy is a regional competence in Belgium and therefore the regional governments play a major role in the conservation of species and habitats. 

Belgium has developed a National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) in line with European and international commitments. Environmental policy, including biodiversity policy is a regional competence in Belgium and therefore the regional governments play a major role in the conservation of species and habitats. The NBSAP will be updated in the light of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, and European Biodiversity Strategy to 2030.

 

There are currently 19 members of IUCN in Belgium (*including 4 international members)

Belgium also hosts the EU Regional Office in Brussels, providing regional and global services to the organisation. Based in Brussels, the Office provides vital linkages for IUCN (its members, National Committees, scientific Commissions and the global Secretariat) to key EU institutions and other public and private actors with regional headquarters in Brussels.
