An integrated infrastructure to support research on natural history collections.
JOINT EXPERIMENTAL MOLECULAR UNIT
JEMU (Joint Experimental Molecular Unit) is a research infrastructure shared by the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) and the Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA), and is funded by the Belgian Science Policy Office (BelSPO).
JEMU aims at supporting scientific research at RBINS and RMCA on natural history collections in the fields of molecular systematics, phylogeny reconstruction, DNA barcoding and population genetics. For the time being, JEMU also assists in the management of the DNA and biological tissues collections at RBINS and RMCA.
As such, JEMU provides scientific and methodological know how to the Barcoding Facility for Organisms and Tissues of Policy Concern (BopCo), with which it has a firm collaboration.
Type: distributed infrastructure (RBINS and RMCA)
Status: permanent financed by a federal dotation.
Creation date: 2007
Access & costs: JEMU is not a mere service facility to third parties, but access is possible through collaborations (e.g. joint projects).
