Call for Propositions (in Dutch and French only) UNESCO 2016 'Man and the Biosphere' The MAB Programme develops the basis within the natural and social sciences for the rational and sustainable use and conservation of the resources of the biosphere and for the improvement of the overall relationship between people and their environment. It predicts the consequences of today’s actions on tomorrow’s world and thereby increases people’s ability to efficiently manage natural resources for the well-being of both human populations and the environment.

By focusing on sites internationally recognized within the World Network of Biosphere Reserves, the MAB Programme strives to:

• identify and assess the changes in the biosphere resulting from human and natural activities and the effects of these changes on humans and the environment, in particular in the context of climate change;
• study and compare the dynamic interrelationships between natural/near-natural ecosystems and socio-economic processes, in particular in the context of accelerated loss of biological and cultural diversity with unexpected consequences that impact the ability of ecosystems to continue to provide services critical for human well-being;
• ensure basic human welfare and a liveable environment in the context of rapid urbanization and energy consumption as drivers of environmental change;
• promote the exchange and transfer of knowledge on environmental problems and solutions, and to foster environmental education for sustainable development.

SAMENWERKING MET UNESCO - OPROEP 2016 
Focus: 'Man and the Biosphere' Programma

Alle non-profit onderzoeksinstellingen worden uitgenodigd om voorstellen voor onderzoeksprojecten in te dienen in het kader van samenwerking met het UNESCO-programma 'Man and the Biosphere' (MAB).

Doelstelling:
De geselecteerde Belgische (en andere) instellingen de kans geven om zich te integreren in het MAB-programma van UNESCO en bij te dragen tot de invulling van de onderzoeksbehoeften van dit programma en van het Wereldnetwerk voor biosfeer-reserves (WNBR). Op deze manier kunnen zij hun expertise en excellentie versterken en aan hun onderzoeks- of museumactiviteit een meerwaarde geven die ze niet zouden kunnen bereiken zonder deze samenwerking.

Oproepthema
De oproep 2016 betreft volgend specifiek onderzoeksthema: Ontwikkeling van een methodologie voor het evalueren van de economische waarde van ecosysteemgoederen en -diensten in Biosfeerreserves, dit ter ondersteuning van de transitie naar een groene economie.

Financiering 
Een maximaal bedrag van 250.000 € wordt voor deze oproep ter beschikking gesteld. Uit de ingediende voorstellen zal één project gekozen worden waartoe met de indiener een onderzoeksovereenkomst zal gesloten worden voor de duur van 2,5 tot maximum 3 jaar (2017-2019). De voorstellen moeten een samenwerking van minstens twee verschillende Belgische onderzoeksinstellingen omvatten. In deze voorstellen kunnen bijkomend buitenlandse (onderzoeks)instellingen meewerken of ook NGO's of publieke of private actoren, waarbij deze partners volledig voor hun eigen financiering instaan.

Indienen van de voorstellen
Voorstellen kunnen tot 12 september 2016 om 15 u. ingediend worden in elektronische vorm bij secr.coord@belspo.be.

Evaluatie - en Selectieprocedure 
De geïnteresseerde instellingen kunnen aan de hand van het indieningsformulier hun voorstel indienen. De 'peer review' gebeurd door 3 buitenlandse experts, waarvan één expert verbonden is aan het MAB-secretariaat. De selectie van het te financieren voorstel gebeurt door Wetenschapsbeleid. 

Begeleidingscomité
Het project wordt voorzien van een begeleidingscomité waarin zowel buitenlandse experts m.b.t. het onderzoeksdomein deelnemen, als (potentiële) gebruikers van de onderzoeksresultaten (MAB secretariaat, een Afrikaanse 'gebruiker') en ook een vertegenwoordiger van BELSPO (voorzitter van het begeleidingscomité).

COOPÉRATION AVEC L'UNESCO - APPEL 2016 
Focus: Programme 'Man and the Biosphere' 

 

Toutes les institutions de recherche sans but lucratif sont invitées à introduire des propositions de projets de recherche dans le cadre de la coopération avec le programme de l'UNESCO 'Man and the Biosphere' (MAB). 
 
    
Objectif
Permettre aux institutions belges (et autres) sélectionnées de s'intégrer dans le programme MAB de l'UNESCO et ainsi contribuer à satisfaire les besoins de recherche de ce programme et du Réseau mondial des réserves de biosphère (WNBR). Elles peuvent ainsi renforcer leur expertise et leur excellence en matière d'activité de recherche ou muséale impossible à obtenir en dehors de cette coopération.
  
Thème de l'appel 
L'appel 2016 concerne spécifiquement le thème de recherche suivant: Développement d'une méthodologie d'évaluation de la valeur économique des biens et services écosystémiques au sein des Réserves de Biosphère, et ce, en support à la transition vers une économie verte.

Financement
Un montant maximal de 250 000 € est mis à disposition pour cet appel. Un seul projet sera choisi parmi toutes les propositions introduites. Pour ce faire, un accord de coopération sera conclu avec le soumissionnaire pour une durée de minimum 2,5 et de maximum 3 années (2017 - 2019). Les propositions doivent impliquer une coopération d'au moins deux institutions de recherche belges différentes. Seront également considérées des propositions dans lesquelles participent davantage des institutions de recherches étrangères ou des ONG ou acteurs privés,  dans lesquelles ces partenaires se chargent de leur propre financement.

Soumission des propositions 
Les propositions peuvent être introduites jusqu'au 12 septembre 2016 à 15 h. sous forme électronique à l'adresse suivante: secr.coord@belspo.be.

Procédure d'évaluation et de sélection. 
Les institutions intéressées peuvent introduire leur proposition à l'aide du formulaire de soumission.
L'évaluation consiste en un 'peer review' par trois experts étrangers, dont un est lié au secrétariat MAB. La sélection de la proposition à financer s'effectue par la Politique Scientifique.

Comité d'accompagnement 
Le projet est doté d'un comité d'accompagnement auquel participent aussi bien des experts étrangers dans le domaine de la recherche, que des utilisateurs (potentiels) des résultats de recherche (secrétariat MAB, un 'utilisateur' africain) ainsi qu'un représentant de BELSPO (président du comité).
